    Scientific discovery:
A new species of copepod has been given the scientific name of Stygonitocrella ecowisei n. sp. in recognition of Ecowise�s contribution to the Atlas Iron project.

  New technique:
Ecowise, in conjunction with the EPA from Victoria and South Australia, is sponsoring the development of a new technique for setting water quality guidelines at the University of Adelaide.

Instrument Group solution improves environmental management in PNG Back to top  
    Case study:
The Instrument Group (IG) was given a challenge: to automatically and continuously monitor the sediment plume in Luise harbour, Papua New Guinea. The IG solution was to mount a specialised camera high up on the ridge above the mine with our existing rainfall station. Lihir Gold personnel now have a better understanding of how tidal movements and sea currents affect the movement the plume, thus helping them to better manage their environment.

GIS team maps out storm water network Back to top  
  Case study:
The GIS Data Management team is undertaking the collection of asset location information for the Wingecarribee Shire Council's (WSC) stormwater network. The data will be loaded into the GIS system (ESRI) at WSC to produce an accurate stormwater layer in the GIS, which will provide a record of the location of all stormwater assets.

Sampling success:
Ecowise Ecology team caught a 1.1 metre Murray Cod that was estimated to be between 40 and 50 kilograms during a survey of fish and macroinvertebrate responses to environmental flows. The Cod was returned unharmed to its snag habitat that is fortunately away from normal fishing pressure.
