It has become increasing important to accurately measure the volume and quality of available water resources to adequately plan for future growth, either for potable consumption or to determine sustainable water supplies for production in industry and agriculture.

Quality Assurance is the total program that documents the quality and degree of reliability of monitoring data. The goal is to assure that the measurements are scientifically valid, legally defensible and of known acceptable precision and accuracy. In Environmental permitting, compliance is associated with meeting permit conditions as well as ambient standards. Ongoing monitoring provides periodic environmental data, which are used to assess compliance.
