Board of Directors

Ecowise operates under a board of six directors, appointed by the joint owners ActewAGL Distribution partners (ACTEW Distribution Limited) and Jemena Networks (ACT) Pty Ltd (formerly Alinta GCA Pty Ltd).

The current board of directors is comprised of:

Michael Costello
Michael J Costello AO, BA, LLB, FAICD – Chairman

Michael Costello is the Chief Executive Officer of ActewAGL.

He is currently Chairman of Ecowise Environmental Pty Limited, ACTEW Distribution Limited and ACTEW Retail Limited.

Before his appointment to ActewAGL in June 2008 he was Managing Director, ACTEW Corporation, a member of the ACTEW Board and a member of the ActewAGL Joint Venture Partnerships Board from 2003.

Mr Costello was previously Deputy-Managing Director of the Australian Stock Exchange and a Director of Export Finance Insurance Corporation and the Australian Trade Commission. He was Chief of Staff to Professor the Hon Kim Beazley AC, a former Labor Opposition Leader and to the Hon Bill Hayden AC when he was the Minister for Foreign Affairs. Mr Costello has been the Secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the Department of Industrial Relations.

Mr Costello has held a number of diplomatic posts including Ambassador to the United Nations. He received an Order of Australia (AO) in 1996 for international relations.

Dean Comrie
Dean Comrie

Mr Comrie joined Ecowise Environmental in 2004 and was appointed Managing Director of Ecowise Environmental Pty Limited in May 2007. Dean has a broad and multidisciplinary range of management experience in the environmental industry including Board, Executive Management, and General Management roles. Prior to joining Ecowise, Mr Comrie worked with WSL Consultants in various roles including that of General Manager. In 2002, Mr Comrie was awarded the prestigious Guy Parker Award. He is also an alumnus of the INSEAD Business School, Fr.

Lim Howe Run
Lim Howe Run

Mr Lim Howe Run was appointed Deputy CEO of Jemena Ltd in June 2008. Mr Lim is also the Managing Director, Strategic Investments for Singapore Power where he is responsible for the management of Singapore Power's overseas investments.

Prior to his appointment as Managing Director and Deputy CEO, Mr Lim held various positions within the Singapore Power Group including risk management, asset management and business development. Mr Lim has worked in the power industry since 1990 and holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) degree from the National University of Singapore. He is also an alumnus of the Harvard Business School, US.

Dianne O'Hara
Dianne O'Hara

Ms O'Hara is responsible for development and ongoing review of core strategic plans for ActewAGL. Ms O'Hara is also responsible for the realisation of business development opportunities identified within the strategic framework. Prior to joining ActewAGL, Ms O'Hara worked as General Manager Operations and Company Secretary at TransACT Communications Pty Limited. Ms O'Hara has a Bachelor of Laws degree and a Master of Public Law from the Australian National University.

John Parker
John Parker

Mr Parker was formerly Chairman and MD of WSL Consultants Pty Ltd, an environmental consultancy established in 1963. John has over 35 years' experience in the water and environmental industries. He has been awarded with AWA Life Membership, an Engineering Excellence Award and a Banksia Gold Environmental Award. Mr Parker is currently researching energy and resources law at the University of Melbourne post graduate law school with particular reference to climate change and water law.

Ted Mathews
Ted Mathews – Chairman Audit and Risk Committee

Mr Mathews had twenty years' experience at senior executive level with the Federal Public Service including as Manager of Department of Finance Government Business Enterprise Reform Program (1986-1990), Head of the Asset Sales Task Force (1992-1993) and Head of the Commonwealth Electricity and Gas Reform Task Force (1993-1997).

From 1997 to 2001 Mr Mathews was engaged by PricewaterhouseCoopers as an adviser on energy market policy reforms, regulation and access arrangements. He was also a member of the team providing governance and probity advice.

In 2002 Mr Mathews assisted the Chairman of the ACT Commission of Audit in reviewing ACT finances and a number of government business enterprises.

He was appointed to the ACTEW Board in August 2002 and is an Alternate Member of the ActewAGL Joint Venture Partnerships Board, a Director of Ecowise Environmental Pty Limited and Ecowise Australia Pty Limited. Mr Mathews is a Member of ACTEW's Audit and Risk Management Committee and Chairman of the Ecowise Audit Committee.
